Nicodemus

“How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” asked Nicodumus of Jesus in John 3:4. It was a logical question. But Nicodemus should have known that mere human logic wasn't going to cut it when talking to Jesus. Jesus was talking about spiritual realities, not physical ones.

The Spirit (same word as "wind" in Greek) blows where it wishes. The point is that God is the One who causes spiritual rebirth. No one can just decide to be "reborn", despite what they told me at those evangelistic meetings at my home town high school many years ago. Having eyes that have been opened to the guilt and shame of my sin, and to the beauty and goodness of Jesus Christ, is a miraculous work of the Spirit. Oh how I'm led to worship as I reflect on this glorious and undeserved transformation of my heart.

As you lead your family through the lesson this week (lesson #9), take time to worship Him for evidence of new birth, and to pray that as our children who aren't yet born again would see more of Jesus and His work on the cross, the Spirit would blow upon them and transfer them from darkness to light! Far from bringing discouragement, the fact that this is a divine work of the Spirit makes our prayers effective.

Don't forget to be working on the memory verse at home with your children throughout the week. They should already have a good head start each Sunday.

Also, we plan on having an evacuation drill next week toward the end of Promise Kingdom. I'll give more information then.

See you at 8:40 a.m. tomorrow! Have a grace-filled weekend!
