Life! Life!

As many of you know, we are studying Bunyan's, Pilgrim's Progress in adult Sunday school. This week I've been thinking about Christian's response to his family's and neighbors' effort to convince him to stay in the City of Destruction. Christian “put his fingers in his ears and ran on crying, Life! Life! Eternal life!”.

I've been wondering if that describes me. Do others see me as a man defined by a singular pursuit of the eternal? Not that other responsibilities aren't important, like work, parenting, loving my wife. But is there the scent of heaven in my doing of them? Are others able to pick up the aroma of Christ when they're around me? Do they sense a deep, abiding joy even when earthly circumstances argue otherwise?

Can you see it? A man who has just tasted of the goodness of the Lord, who has just uncovered a hidden treasure that puts all the riches of the world to shame, is running, and running with both longing and joy. Running with singular affection, with his eye on the prize. And the prize is Jesus Himself. Life! Life!

Does that image stir you? Does it describe you? Have your children seen your life defined by this single eternal purpose? What would they say does define you (for those old enough to understand - and don't underestimate the age at which they pick up on this)? Keep your eyes on Christ and pray hard that more and more of your daily life would reflect the glory of the eternal, the glory of God.

Lesson 11

This week in Promise Kingdom we will be reading and discussing the miraculous catch of fish from Luke 5:1-11. What an amazing picture of Jesus we get in this passage, His power, His grace and love, and His forgiveness. Read and worship the Christ that is revealed here with your family this week. Life! Life! Eternal life!

By your side on this journey to joy!
